In the Name of Jesus Christ - BE - SET - FREE!”

BE SET Free!  In the presence of Jesus Christ and with the power of his name, there is incredible power and authority. In the Gospel of Mark last week (Mk.1:21-28) - Jesus liberated a man in the temple by the power of his words. After a loud cry was expelled from this man’s body, he was set free. The gospel today (Mk. 1:29-39) is a continuation from last weeks gospel. Jesus is on a “roll” for healing. This is the “mother in law” healing prayer. This particular “mother in law” was in need of a certain healing; a “fever’ was upon her and she was sick. In the presence and the name of Jesus, all who were sick came before him;  physically, spiritually, emotionally. Those who were wounded, blind, lame, possessed, oppressed and burdened came before Christ the healer, and  they experienced a new type of liberation and freedom.

She was healed: Simon’s mother in law was healed, and the first thing she did (once the healing of Jesus was experienced in her body) she began to serve. Once we allow the healing and liberating presence of Jesus to penetrate our hearts, souls and our wounds, we will then be moved into “mission” and action.

“The “fever” left her.” (Mark 1:31)

We too need to learn to pray for each other IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST.  A simple formula for healing is “In the name of Jesus Christ - BE- SET - FREE!” Imagine if we learned to pray for each other. I also ask you to keep me, all priests and all involved in ministry in your prayers. One of our “occupational hazards” is that we work where “wild spirits” roam. This is why prayers are essential in ministry and in “Living the Mission” of Jesus Christ. Many times, we are prevented from a deeper level of an awareness of God’s love for us; the journey, will involve the purifying way of the cross. I invite you to ASK JESUS for the gift of freedom and liberation. Ask him to show you the way of his Divine Freedom.

In the “mother in law” story today, once she was liberated from the “fever” that afflicted her, she was ready to serve. Once we are liberated from that which afflicts or oppresses us, we are ready to move in the direction of service, generosity, and ministry.

You are in my prayers, thank you for your continued prayers.

Peace and Blessings,

Fr. Kenneth J. Malley
